Mamma Mia DVD Reviews

September 2008
I can't remember seeing a film for a while, if ever, that made me smile all the way through, that had such energy all the way through and had me singing my heart out!! I agree with some of the other reviews that the singing wasn't great (mine included!), but I loved the light hearted way that the film came across to me- I don't think it was made to be a serious film, just pure light hearted entertainment.

I've already seen this film twice and would gladly go again, I've already pre-ordered the DVD. I've rarely laughed so much at a film and it has you singing the songs for days afterwards. How great to see serious actors prepared to make fools of themselves, bless them all, they really made this film work. It didn't matter that Pierce Brosnan can't sing for toffee, it made it all the more real and you just love him for it. This film will just run and run and I expect to wear the DVD out, if you can do that. I hope they get an Oscar for it - or several!!

Mamma Mia (Stage Version) is one of my favourite musicals I've seen at the theatre, so I was a bit disappointed when I saw the film, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. (But not as much as the stage show). They have changed a few things and cut parts out. I do hope the film encourages more people to go and see it at the theatre, because you really won't be disappointed.

Character wise, I'm still wandering how Pierce Brosnan managed to get that part. Cringeworthy (to say the least). In contrast, Meryl Streep and Julie Walters were fantastic! In comparison with the stage show every actor/singer/dancer were top notch.

The film is full of energy, happiness and also tears, and is definitely going to be the Summer Blockbuster of 2008. It really is fantastic how well the songs blend into the story, and it is a credit to musical films! You will come out laughing and feeling great - what more could you want from a film? Just be sure to stay for the end credits - there's an extra treat at the end!

The Power Of Abba Lives On!

July 2008
The Mamma Mia DVD is the best feel good film since Sex and the city, every female should do themselves a favour and see it. Have just come back from Greece where I saw this on opening night (July 3rd) at an open air cinema does it get any better !!! Casting is pretty much spot on, you can even forgive Pierce's attempts at singing :) and Meryl Streep's version of Winner takes it all is awe inspriing but the casting of Julie Walters was the final touch of genius ! I have to have it as soon as this comes out on DVD This movie is a keeper!!
